because the police should not be allowed to do shoddy work. because failing to defend and maintain the system of checks and balances on law enforcement would erode the foundation of our government and allow for authoritarianism and corruption to fester.

"why should the state have such a high burden of proof when the guy definitely did it?" you may ask, aghast. easy. because the burden of proof for a guilty party and the burden of proof for an innocent one is the same. because the criminal justice system should not mete out punishment without cause.

my job is not to prove that my client didn't do it. my job is to make the state prove that my client did it. if the state cannot prove beyond reasonable doubt that my client committed a crime, then they don't deserve the conviction. what my client did or didn't do is irrelevant. prove it

i do fear this is the truth, unfortunately. it’s funnier to think that lyanna could only think of one targaryen name but i think the real answer is just that the showrunners were bad. tragic

actually scratch that. the funnier option is that lyanna named the baby because she forgot the name of rhaegar's other kids. in her final moments after "promise me, ned," her actual last words were "ah shit, wait, fuck-" as it dawned on her too late. that's what i'm going with

this does not work whatsoever though because... rhaegar's son still existed in the show. they explicitly talk about rhaegar's kids by elia martell. the dvd extras specifically name them. so we just have. aegon and Other Aegon. good job rhaegar

in the books there's actually a character who claims to BE rhaegar's firstborn son, aegon vi, who is very important and who got yeeted out of the show (which is partially why it fell apart at the end), so presumably they did this as a nod or something?

if you want to analyze the text beyond that or find alternative interpretations then that's one thing. i think the book is significant and interesting in a meta-way. but so many people just simply do not seem to grasp the actual meaning of anything stoker is saying beyond the aesthetics.

i don't understand how people hand wring about the moral purity of like, i don't even know, wuthering heights or some shit, and then meanwhile dracula has some of the most ass-backwards stupid fucking politics of any book i've ever read. and there are simply crickets.
