the entire premise of the original Max Headroom movie is that a television broadcasting conglomerate was airing basically a cognitohazard that kills people and the end hinges on that fact coming to public light, with the implication that now surely, because its out in the open, they'll be ruined!

i think a lot about the "whistleblower fantasy" in movies and stories where an intrepid reporter or spurned party uncovers secret information that, once let out into the world, surely would lead to the downfall of the unscrupulous party

and i look at it all now and see it as hopelessly naive

first as tragedy, then as farce
