The garden is giving. 🤙🫴 The change in weather hasn't slowed it down at all—plenty of peppers, arbols, and tomatoes on their way. Our neighbourhood seems to exist in a year-round bubble of sunshine and warmth. Pros: veggies! Cons: every time it rains, it could be the last time it rains. 😂

Look at them go! Our other chili plant is starting to grow too---can't remember if it's an arbol or ancho plant. We added a bird feeder for the tomato plants (to encourage the birds to yoink any caterpillars). Gonna add some mulch this weekend, maybe get roma toms and red bell peppers!

Something yoinked a pepper in the night (no idea what), but I still have one green bell pepper and one jalapeno growing right now. I just want SOMETHING. I need one win to prove I can do it. 🤣😂

Well, this was a fun one! I don't really make moodboards or playlists for any particular reason, and I never really feel guilt for not writing because I don't take it *too* seriously. 🤔 Definitely had projects I started to hate though, and considered quitting more than one. #writingcommunity
A bingo card (titled 'Writer's Block Bingo Card' with the following: 1. stared at the same sentence for 30+ minutes 2. opened your doc only to immediately close it again 3. forgot how to write (no, like, seriously) 4. plotted an entirely new story instead of continuing your existing project 5. felt nothing toward a project you once loved 6. felt guilty for not writing even though you needed the break 7. wondered if you should quit writing altogether 8. scrapped an entire project 9. scheduled a real break to avoid burning out 10. wrote just a little, and realized it still counted 11. did something creative to ‘refill the well’ 12. said you’ll try again tomorrow - and DID! 13. treated yourself kindly about not writing 14. read something that reminded you why you love telling stories 15. wrote with no expectations to be perfect 16. made a playlist or moodboard to re-connect with your story All but 6 and 16 are ticked off with a purple line.

Why is The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst not capitalized as such on the book cover? 'the ENCHANTED GREENHOUSE'? The picture is attached below, but I'm lowkey horrified, and I can't find any justification for this online. Mistake? Intentional? What!!! Please, never do this. Ever. Ihateit.

An excerpt reading: The bonfire is a Cove tradition. Like the corn-dogs-on-the-pier challenge, which, yes, is both ridiculous and weirdly cutthroat. The night before the festival kicks off, the whole town drags itself down to the sand just past the pier. Locals and tourists alike haul over coolers and guitars and ratty beach blankets, and Mr. Marcy always turns up with one of those industrial-sized bags of marshmallows that turn into lava the second they touch the fire. I’m planning to skip it. I’ve got two legitimate excuses. A folder of half-finished environmental permit applications and a skull-splitting headache from too much sun. My body’s already melting into the couch when Lucy appears, hand resting on her belly, the other gripping a popsicle. She doesn’t even look at me. “You’re coming,” she demands. “I never said I wasn’t.” “You didn’t have to. You’ve been sulking around this house all week and it’s creeping Mike out. Come to the bonfire.” “I’m not sulking.” She snorts and looks down at me, a judgmental eyebrow raised. “You’re sulking.” “I’ve got work to do—” “You’re coming. End of discussion. Are you really going to let your baby sister waddle around on the beach unaccompanied? Because I will. I will waddle down there in my unsupportive flip-flops and start a smear campaign. I’ll tell everyone you voted to cancel the fireworks. That you think pelicans are overrated. That you really do want to shut down the marina. And what if I fall over?” She gestures wildly to her bump. “You think I can get myself up off the—” “I’m going! I’m going, okay? Please stop talking.” Lucy beams. “Dress cute.”

Terrible photo (wet gloves + phone = bad combo), but the edging is in and the glue is down! It is wonky, but it is DIY, so, you know, whatever! I'm proud! 🥰 The final cost is $202, which, hey, is better than the thousands we would have paid!

This is now my patio diary so I can look back on it in years to come.

It is getting there! Now I somehow need to get another 12 or so bags of pea gravel home, then fix up the edging and get some landscaping glue to seal it all in. Once the furniture is sorted, it is planting time!

Lowe's only had 19 pavers left, so fingers crossed they have more in stock before the sale ends. The string lights also lied about being 50ft so I couldn't wrap them around the whole yard and tied them up to the tree instead. It's coming together, and I'm so proud I've done this myself. 😭

All in all, the project is coming along nicely. Sprinklers are being rerouted for a native garden, lights arriving tonight ready to string along the fence. Secondhand patio furniture and umbrella stand, parasol on the way. 🤩 It's wonky (like my path solars), but I'm proud of it anyway. 🤣

I won’t proclaim to be an expert considering I'm attempting to DIY this patio for about $100, but if ever you need to level off sand, a $9.95 costco pizza (the leftover box, not the pizza) has worked better than a leveling rake, so... go figure. 🤣

As the plan to knock down and rebuild our house has been shot down in Trump's economy (sounds crazy, but houses sell for $2m+ in LA county, so this is the cheapest way... 😭), we have settled on carving out a garden space instead. A small consolation. We will revisit our plans after Trump. 🤞🤞🤞
