The Incurable Maker

A passionate maker with a keen interest in education. Love making stuff, but love even more helping others to improve their making skills.
Of course I could buy it, but where's the fun in that?

I generally get pretty irritated by the #Meta AI butting unasked into my feed with questions that I don't want answers to. But this one was good, showing that Meta still has a long way to go when it comes to coping with humour!

Happiness is hooking up three platefuls of spaghetti to get a small touchscreen working, and it actually functions first time!

Really pleased with my first order from JLCPCB - Great price, solid quality and fast delivery. What more could you ask for?

Interesting, that despite the never-ending fanfare on social media about Bambu Labs, there were very few to see at the Hannover Messe Industrial trade fair. The overwhelming majority of machines from the Consumer/Prosumer category were either Ultimakers, or the Prusa Core One.

I always enjoy checking what Igus is showing at trade fairs. Some of their stuff just works as a drop-in replacement, but often you need to take a bit more care with designing correctly for their bearings and bushings. Time well-spent though!

One for those who've been around for a while... What were the really popular prints back in the early days? Those that everyone printed for a few months and then moved on to other models?
Master Yoda was one, Baby Groot and Adalinda the singing serpent also did the rounds. What else?

Question about input shaping and accelerometers.

Marlin doesn't support them, but is there a method other than using Klipper for using an accelerometer with say a Raspberry Pi to log data during a test print and then use that data to get the numbers needed to put into the firmware?

You can measure as often and as accurately as you like, but if you forget about that little bit sticking out at the side, you're going to have to do it all again! 😭😭😭

Quite a few Bambu Lab printers at #didacta this year. None of the exhibitors seemed to be aware of the data protection issues surrounding the manufacturer. Two possibilities... They don't know how their product works, or they are relying on the ignorance of the attendees.

The word "maker" was often on view at didacta, but as so often at education trade fairs, it was lacking a pedagogical support. Technology without a reason isn't much worth.

Just running the Califlower from @adam-v3d.bsky.social to check the skew after a load of maintenance. A great tool at a fair price! (And a great way to support a maker!)

It's it a bug or a feature? Sooner or later every 3d printer owner starts producing solutions that leverage the advantages of #3dprinting - a bit of planking would have done the job just as well, but where's the fun in that?
Happy printing!

Have been scavenging motors from a box full of old cordless drills. These are the first few and some seem to have decent gearboxes. Now the question is, what should I do with them? Ideas?

I need to start doing some more resin printing! I don't do enough to really get my workflow sorted out. But this is for a young guy who's into #anime and painting.
