I get one week of paternity leave from work because of older, conservative male executives who hire nannies and believe it’s a woman’s job to take care of the baby and home. Just a simple example of a thousand things we should change in society to give aspiring parents a helping hand.

Flag code, states rights, family values, judicial restraint…we do the GOP a great service by pretending conservatism is an intellectual philosophy when it is really about advancing cultural battles to distract from further enrichment of the wealthy.

They are testing the boundaries of public acceptance. They’ll move from illegal immigrants to green card holders to US citizens that publicly dissent in the coming years. And the law firms are too bullied and cowardly to defend these cases. And the supreme court cannot be fully trusted on this.

Stephen Miller is truly the stuff of nightmares. Guys like Lutnick are just dumb. Miller is the only one here that is a clinical unfeeling sociopath that would endorse any amount of violent repression.

The cult’s hold on these people never ceases to amaze me. Sure, sometimes there are cracks, but by and large the mental gymnastics they are doing to justify the economy tanking is something that will be studied for decades or maybe centuries.

They believe their base to be incredibly stupid. Whether one agrees or disagrees, it is alarming.

We should be kind and allow gramps at least 3 weeks to rest before expecting another interview. Being a movement leader against an authoritative regime is exhausting hard work.
March 25, 2025 at 12:04 AM
These people are not remotely equipped for the emotional toll of living under an increasingly fascist regime. I almost feel pity.
March 22, 2025 at 12:39 PM
Universities and companies are not going to protect civil society. They will obey in advance and be accomplices to advancing fascism. History repeating itself. Every capitulation makes the regime stronger. At first, and even now, their fist cannot crush dissent. But over coming months and years? Yes

I trust that Chuck will write his best strongly worded letter yet that will get Trump to stop his madness. Any day now. I have faith in Chuck’s powerful letters. A real leader in these dark times.

My elderly immigrant grandmother with dementia who has been in the US lawfully and productively for 60 years is apparently a guest here. Ok.

We progressives in purple states and districts are amazed at how similarly moderate your Dem politicians are in places like CA and NY. Those areas should be the progressive vanguard of the party.
March 14, 2025 at 1:24 PM
Ken, ease up on Chuck. He has been writing a trove of strongly worded letters for various government officials that will have them shaking in their boots.
March 2, 2025 at 9:01 PM
I think that hair dye has seeped into his brain too far.

Our domestic policy is run by corporations, oligarchs, and right wing zealots. Our foreign policy is run by the same forces, plus heavy manipulation by Putin. Wonderful. The decline of the US has picked up from a trot to a full gallup.

Things are so crazy I need to quadruple check news like this to make sure it is real. Trump II is nothing like Trump I.
February 24, 2025 at 2:31 AM
There is no way Trump graduated from Wharton honestly without knowing how tariffs work. If daddy didn’t bribe/threaten professors, his idiot son would have flunked out his first year. Imagine him taking an Econ 101 exam today.
February 22, 2025 at 2:09 PM
Imagine having popular party leaders that could attract these crowds? Hakeem and Chuck could not dream of it. I rather watch paint dry than hear the empty rhetoric and excuses of those donor-controlled robots.
February 22, 2025 at 2:01 PM
Thank you! It is a confusing situation but I guess I am trying to project sanity and business sense on those two psychos.
February 20, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Show up to work like Trump? Fantastic! I will go golfing half the day, chat on the phone with friends, scroll social media, and insist my coworkers type up 1-pagers with bulleted text and pictures.
February 20, 2025 at 12:17 AM
I am a bit surprised our co-Presidents have rival social media apps and this hasn’t come to a head yet. Am I missing something? I know little about the Truth Social cesspool so maybe their user bases and use cases don’t overlap as much as I think.
February 20, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Chuck is going to get carpal tunnel after all the strongly-worded letters he is going to type this year.
February 11, 2025 at 1:37 AM
Thank you for speaking out about this so clearly for those of us not in academia/research.

We already have a flawed funding/economic model in higher ed that leads to loss of tenured prof positions. I imagine this will exacerbate. Condolences to all on PhD track right now hoping to become a prof.

We need to fund and consume independent digital media more than ever. I am far left and urge my center left friends to do the same, even if Jacobin or The Lever is not their cup of tea. Just stop with subscriptions to NYT, WaPo, CNN, etc.
February 8, 2025 at 3:31 AM
Digital independent media is doing this. Antiquated newspaper and cable news corporations appeal to a dwindling and aging base. Our priority should be to get our more moderate aunts and grandpas to switch news sources. Pressuring legacy media will not be effective.
