The ‘08 credit crunch hit U.S. home values to a much greater extent, which makes mortgage debt less of a factor.

Love that number. I think what I was remembering was a discussion of the hidden private debt numbers related to housing debt ( which is higher in e.g. Canada, Australia, U.K.). If you add it in, it gets a little scary.

Would also be interested in whether Canada measures either its debt or GDP differently than other countries.

“They also come with the added benefit of intellectual property transfer from Saab, helping to build additional capabilities in Canada’s aerospace industry.”

Something tells me Lockheed Martin hasn’t made the same offer.

I think Canadians have zero interest in F-35s at this juncture.

We used to make good tech. We have some of the best schools on the planet. Maybe it’s time to get back in the race. Betting our future on solely digging stuff out of the ground seems to be a sad waste of big Canadian brains.

Maybe, but a quick ask re some of America’s worst moments in just the last 50 years brought up some pretty stark results.

Zuckerberg’s absurd Hawaiian bunker suggests he’s worried about that scenario as well.

The yahoos most likely to lone-wolf it are also the most gaslit. Trump could take their firstborns as long as he sticks it to wokedom.

They’re shit cars. The self driving thing is shit. The whole catching fire thing is shit. And yes, they’re also expensive as shit.

Maybe consider that a certain Leader-of-the -Free-World- elect can’t stand Trudeau. But seems to adore authoritarian dictators. And is also hoping for a Conservative win in Canada. If that doesn’t speak volumes, I dunno..

Kudos for posting this!

It’s not so much about skills shortages as it is modern day fealty. The reasonable pitch from the left is to keep the program but give the temporary workers full rights (i.e. the ability to look for another job). Business is not fond of the proposal.
December 31, 2024 at 12:52 AM
Canada has an equivalent program. There was great weeping and gnashing of teeth from the Canadian business lobby post-pandemic to bring in more temporary foreign workers. It’s essentially indentured servitude, and forget about workers’ rights.

Haha, have had this on essentially a loop for days.

Try to remember that there will almost invariably be at least one person in there silently urging you to keep at it. You won’t know they’re rooting for you, and it would frankly be weird for them to walk right up and express as much, but it’s for sure a thing.

Yup, it’s super peachy. Enjoy it while it lasts. Once the platform hits some kind of critical mass the barbarians will torch the gates.
