idk how to describe it but "people don't change" just feels exceedingly toxic masculine to me. maybe bio essentialist? Yeah maybe it's the justifying of bad behavior. Or just the cynicism of depressed men

The tagline "People don't change but remember who they are." is also killing me

I'm actually primarily a cycler but I run when it gets cold. The speed suddenly becomes a disadvantage.

We really could have it all. Damn.

Right there with you on cardio. Wrote this in 2019; went running this morning.
Why I Hate Running
I'm worse at it than your average tortoise, and yet I persist. Why? Miseries and all, there's no better foundation for my physical and mental health.

I guess maybe I just need to be put in a moving glass gym
December 28, 2025 at 7:09 PM
To be fair I can't run indoors either! I prefer running outside. And when I get tired of thinking I run harder until my mind goes blank. Weight training just feels so slow to me in comparison.

my question for weight trainers is always...how do you not die of boredom

If the US is the most organized working class then organizing does not work. Luckily, this is not true. It is not the 70s/80s anymore, kids. It's the Jazz Age again. It's the gilded age. The gilded age oligarchs were not defeated by street movements, but by a slower, more intentional organizing.
December 28, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Yes - there is a memory problem. There is also a winning problem. Street movements have not won systematic change in a long time, if ever. The worst part? Street movements are physically and mentally traumatizing. I bike marshalled and was a street medic. I don't think I will ever go back to it.

it is not *possible* for the US to have the most organized working class. The US might have the most rhetorically combative working class (citation needed). Maybe the US has the 'hardest working' organizers, but falls short due to regulatory hurdles. Still does not make it the most organized.

For example, in France 10.8% of workers are unionized - pretty close to the US, which is around 9.9%. But this is where it gets dicey:

Germany? 16.3%
UK? 22%
Greece? 25%
Ireland? 33%
Belgium? 47%
Finland? 74%

some eastern european country's hover around US levels, few/none are lower than the US

I hope it passes. I just don't know if this specific campaign team has the juice. But California is a different world. It's easy mode compared to what I am used to here.

My friends and I often quote Tony Soprano, “‘Remember when’ is the lowest form of communication.”
