I’m an educator who started writing about care and mindfulness during what I thought would be a short sabbatical. It became clear that caregivers needed more people to speak up for them, more often, so I’m still at it. I’d love for you to join me. More info here: ryanroseweaver.substack.com/about

“Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.”

My colleague Betsy will be hosting a workshop called "Beyond the Heartbreak: Navigating Recurrent Pregnancy Loss with Compassion," on April 10, 4-5 pm PST. Registration will open soon on rtzhope.org. Many who have read my work on pregnancy loss have told me they need this. #pregnancyloss #grief

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt

This piece on beginning to garden again, after a devastating late pregnancy loss, feels worth sharing, as the first signs of spring begin to arrive. Plants are built to re-launch themselves; I think mothers are too. ryanroseweaver.substack.com/p/9-finding-... @literarymama.bsky.social #MamaAnd

Sharing this prompt on motherhood + relaunching, which is itself part of a relaunch: "Once a month, we will post a “Mama And” prompt on the blog, and we encourage you to write ... short poetry, flash fiction, micro-stories, or other kinds of art. For February, the topic is “Mama And… Relaunching."

Educator Jonny Adler and I recently chatted about public ed, from the preparation he received at @harvardeducation.bsky.social and the impact of mentors like Rhonda Bodie and Eric Soto-Shed to the ways teachers are supporting our most vulnerable kids now. ryanroseweaver.substack.com/p/creating-s...

I needed something to look forward to that wasn't $$$ or made me feel like I was checking out of the work of making the world better. So I made this list of retreats that teach kids to be peacemakers + give parents some peace themselves. Win win. ryanroseweaver.substack.com/p/retreats-t...

Tired caregivers will come together around stories and movements that center meaning and joy and belonging, even when they supposedly "don’t have time." Case in point:

If you are in Utah, CALL Govornor Cox and tell him to VETO HB267!

This bill ends the rights of unions to collective bargaining!

Fun fact about me: I was born into an extremely progressive family of educators, social workers, scientists and activists — in Utah. There’s always been an underground community of us there, and in other “red” states. It has only grown in recent years. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Utah turning it out when the Utah GOP goes after unions.

When you've pissed off the red states, your in trouble.

I quit Twitter/X long ago. Giving BlueSky a try because I see so many great grassroots efforts happening here related to my beat: finding better ways to care for the carers. If you too are covering or advocating for families, helping professionals and/or the environment, let’s connect.
