Books by racists remain in the Naval Academy library, but books that study or seek to explain racism have been purged.

Copies of Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” are in the library, but “Memorializing the Holocaust” is gone. Charles Murray’s “The Bell Curve” is in the library, but a book that rebutted Murray’s claim that Blacks were genetically inferior was removed. Histories of scientific racism have also been removed. The “Camp of the Saints” a fictional book beloved by White supremacists remains, but not texts about White supremacy like “American Swastika: Inside the White Power Movement's Hidden Spaces of Hate.” Even as Hegseth is restoring the names of Confederate generals who fought to defend slavery to military bases, books about Confederate monuments are purged.
