Another part they get wrong is that the newest software is bloated and buggy, so users naturally resist the "upgrade" to a new device. Hopefully the software companies will start to realize that smaller footprint, higher quality software is the way forwards.

The bigger cause though is the Reagan era trickle down economics whereby the upper tax rates were reduced, so the money went to the managers, not the workers. Check the pay difference between CEO and workers in the 1980's compared to now.

If we were to take the money planned for more candu reactors and instead invest in manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines and grid scale battery storage we would have a much more sustainable manufacturing base and be able to deliver power in shorter timescales

Except this time around the quality of the generated code is even worse than it was when outsourced contractors worked on the code.
