Then Shall They Fast
Years ago, a loved one died, and I was led to wonder if it might have been my fault.

“In a recent meeting of the First Presidency of the Church, a decision was made that, when directed by the First Presidency, the announcement of the construction of a new temple should be made on location by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, or a member of an area presidency."

Looks like local announcements of new Temples will indeed be the pattern going forward for the time being...

M̶o̶r̶m̶o̶n̶ ̶A̶d̶v̶e̶n̶t̶ Christmas Season (AKA 'Light The World') seems to have come early this year on ChurchofJesusChrist.org! The socials don't seem to have made the switch over yet, though. #LiturgicalColors

Since it's actually online now for good, bumping this SIGNIFICANT contribution to the new manual!
www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual...
One thing pretty big the new Scripture Help: Old Testament manual does is call out each verse that has been used as proof-texts for Blacks & the Priesthood rhetoric, and say "It doesn't mean that," although often stated "it isn't clear" what it DOES mean, especially with the JS texts (Abraham, JST).

Old Testament Scripture Helps leaves room for accepting the use of Intelligences in Abraham as equivalent to Spirits (as Joseph Smith used the term), but leans more heavily on a quote from Elder/President Christofferson affirming revealed status to B.H. Roberts' (uncredited) tripartite model.

A significant acknowledgement in the footnotes of the "Old Testament Scripture Helps" about the Book of Moses: "While the book of Moses may include the restoration of material that was lost, it may also have been revelation given by the Lord to Joseph Smith that was never originally in the Bible."

Old thread, always relevant, but particularly as we head into OT for CFM next year . . .
Understanding contemporary cosmological/theological paradigms & worldview models are massively important when making sense of what is being taught as praxis, & how and why it's understood to matter. This goes for developments in the modern Church just as much as ancient religion.

And here's the thing: When a worldview is reaching a crisis point, and the wineskin is about to burst, you're often seeing the most desperate attempts by traditionalists to still find a way to keep the old wineskin stitched up. And the stitches become more and more obvious.

Woah!
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints named Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé on Thursday as its newest apostle, a Frenchman known for his ecclesiastical oversight of the faith’s financial empire and his support for Earth stewardship and sustainability.
LDS Church names a new apostle. Hint: He knows a lot about the faith’s money.

Noting again for this week's #ComeFollowMe that in the Doctrine and Covenants (section 128) we have a reference to the angel Raphael, the only appearance of that name in our canon, since the only other appearance of Raphael in the Bible is in Tobit in the Apocrypha.

Reading about how as BYU President, Dallin H Oaks was EXTREMELY pissed off at Ezra Taft Benson's 'Birch Mafia' running an anti-communist spy ring at BYU, and wasn't a fan of "BYU's tenuous position in the silent contest with extremists if the right wing". That ... really puts some things in context.
