Soup’s on in December from @brigidsgatepress.bsky.social. Includes a short essay by yours truly on Bernie Wrightson’s comic book adaptation of George Romero and Stephen King's Creepshow. Edited by Grace Reynolds and Wendy Dalrymple with cover art by Alison Flannery

I was a big fan of The Talosite, so I’m pretty jazzed to find @rebeccacampbell.bsky.social ‘s debut collection in my mailbox today.

I went to see Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and all I got was an amazing cinematic experience and this nifty poster.

Step 1: See a horror movie.
Step 2: Walk to the metro station through an abandoned subterranean mall.

About to see one of my all-time favorite horror movies in an actual theater for the first time. I am *very* excited about this.

Good news folks: shipments from @hplhs.bsky.social are QC’d by shapeless eldritch horrors.

I’ll sheepishly admit that I just watched this one for the first time. I’m forgiving a few (really distracting) editing flubs because of the awesomely bleak ending that slams shut plot holes like the lid of a coffin.

The Eye of Sauron may manifest at any place or time (including a table at a suburban Starbucks).

When you’re planning your Robert Redford retrospective, don’t sleep on Sneakers (1992). Seriously, it’s a fun watch.

The Woman in Black (1989 version): You don’t need much in the way of special effects to make a truly frightening movie. Effective camera work, creepy sound design, and a script from Nigel Kneale don’t hurt though.

Not always a sure sign that a late 80s/early 90s movie would be good, but a strong indicator that it would be a LOT.

Show me the first image that burned into your brain when you first discovered the horror genre.

A panel from Bernie Wrightson's graphic novel adaptation of George Romero and Stephen King's Creepshow, specifically from the chapter "Father's Day"

Back when it was first announced, I called @thomasha.bsky.social ‘s debut collection an instant preorder. Which is exactly what I did; can’t wait to dig into this one.

It’s always a good day when a new Langan collection arrives, and the title story for this one is a personal favorite.

Me: You aren’t allowed to buy any more British Library Tales of the Weird books until you read the ones you already have.

Also me: But what about the fungus one? Surely the fungus one is okay?
