One of my favorite things about academic travel in Europe: Trains! I'm currently enjoying the Belgian countryside and the futuristic train station in Liège! https://x.com/MPINB_outreach/status/1833451133500641351

#wormart is excellent as always. I laughed so much at worm comics by Hoikin Poon. The amazing crafting of the woodcraft, and the embroidery ! And you can make @LariFerguson Gloworm change to your fav color! It's amazing to see so much talent! #worm23

Our second international worm meeting as a lab is approaching! #Worm23
We have 4 posters for you and I'll be your tour guide for the Circuits, computation, & techniques session together with @vvkvnkt. This was us at #Worm21 ↓ 1/

Heading back home today after five intense weeks @KITP_UCSB. I got to meet old and new friends, rediscovered my love for physics, and got to teach some amazing students! We built and dismantled a whole worm lab within that time! #neuroloco22 #qbio_kitp #worms

have your mug @elliehoopla! I think @LabLiao said that means we have to write a paper together 😁.

Final presentation day for the #qbio_kitp summer school 'Neurophysics of Motion'. First session has curve-crawling larvae, flow-following fish and trudging trosophila (sorry).

More maggot motion! @tamsioul talks about algorithms for olfactory-guided navigation and their evolution! @KITP_UCSB #neuroloco22 #qbio_kitp
January 30, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Today @KITP_UCSB, Jane Loveless talks about locomotion in crawling maggots. But it turns out that this problem generalizes and works for other slender crawlers like worms and snakes too! How cool! This is #neuroloco22 at its best. #qbio_kitp

Fly larvae are choosy about food and will explore more in worse foods. Jimena Berni talks about foraging strategies and Levy walks @KITP_UCSB #neuroloco22
January 30, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Today @KITP_UCSB Michael Dickinson starts by comparing the reconstruction of ancient languages from our current languages to finding animal ancestors from our current snapshots. Can we infer how flight evolved? #neuroloco22
January 30, 2025 at 4:03 PM
Neat talk from @SimonSponberg at #neuroloco22 about synchronous and asynchronous muscles and why one might not want to sit at the resonance frequency of a muscle if one wants to be able to maneuver @KITP_UCSB

Third theory night - @INemenman and @greg_stephens show how we can uncover models from data. What model complexity is appropriate? How to extract dynamics from data?(with a nice connection to last week's Markov models). @KITP_UCSB #neuroloco22 #qbio_kitp

It's bottlenecks all the way down! @elliehoopla talks about constraints and flexibility in motor circuit development. @KITP_UCSB #neuroloco22 #qbio_kitp

It was a lot of fun teaching models with Jane Loveless for our second theory night! We brainstormed models on different scales (subcellular - cellular) and level of abstraction (detailed - simplified) and then showed two examples. #neuroloco22 #qbio_kitp
