🎉 Happy First Birthday to #HearOurVoices! What a year it's been! I'm grateful for the chance to talk with students and educators, to hear how the book is taught in classrooms, and to see students engage with an anti-colonial history of empire.

I love food, I love food writing, and I am continuously astounded by the ignorance of food writers on the history and dynamics of migration. Migrants are simultaneously utterly alien and yet knowable through generalization.

As we see daily, imperialism shapes our world. I’m so thankful to have these upcoming opportunities to share #HearOurVoices with readers in Portland, OR; Davidson, NC; and anywhere zoom can be accessed.

A lot of assumptions going on in this article about breaking patronymic norms, including who does and doesn't count as a couple.

I'm so excited to host Alexander at Reed this afternoon, where we will meet in person for the first time and talk about how we collaborated on our book without ever being in touch!

Love that we're paying $2.3 million a year to PPS's Comms team for these truly A+ messages

We wrote a book together, but never spoke until today!

I really wish we had. It was great to talk with Chao about Hear Our Voices, our experiences of writing violence for children, what gets left out when empire is the frame, and the need to affirm children's identities, families and communities.

I'm part of an inclusive teaching reading circle, and this week we read a chapter from de Bie et al's Promoting Equity and Justice Through Pedagogical Partnership. They argue that higher ed is a site of epistemological, affective, and ontological violence.
