Cowbirds evolved to lay their eggs in other birds' nests while following buffalo herds.

As buffalo stirred up insects, the cowbirds took advantage and let other birds raise their young.

Times are bleak, it’s true. But people are still out here doing incredible work now, when it matters most.

Activists in KY bought land slated for a new prison, and will now fill it with native plants and use it as an intertribal gathering location.

Saw the first sandhill crane couple on their nest earlier this week. This gorgeous male and his lady were out eating grubs yesterday and I can’t wait for them to start building their nest either. The season of baby pictures is almost upon us!

🐢💘 Ever wonder how turtles flirt?

It’s all about the slow and steady approach!

Males will swim circles around females, showing off their best moves—like waving their front claws in a sweet, slow dance. 🐢💕 #TurtleFlirt #ValentinesDay #Nature #JazzHands

Did you know some bats call trees their home?

🌳🦇 These tree-dwelling bats, like the Red Bat, roost in the branches or tree cavities, where they stay safe from predators.

They help keep insect populations in check, making them essential to healthy ecosystems!

While #Hummingbirds are thought of as only drinking nectar, a hummingbird may obtain half or even up to 80% of the energy it requires by eating insects, which live on native plants.

You can help restore your #environment by planting native plants like wild columbine.

These tiny marvels travel hundreds of miles each year, but their populations are at risk due to habitat loss and climate change.

Hummingbirds in the Southwest USA are a true desert treasure, but their populations are on the decline. Decreasing food sources are taking a toll.

We need to ensure they have a safe, thriving environment.

Cuckoo flower is also called lady's smock and flowers in late spring. It's the host plant for the Orange tip's caterpillars. We can eat it too, rather delicious and mustardy.
