I'm from Aotearoa (New Zealand) and I love to talk politics - @ me or dm me if you wanna talk about politics!
No, he's right though, the problem is the hypocrisy of firing thousands of public workers and then complaining about consultancy. Government consultancy is scam-adjacent and it is proliferated by firing employees that could otherwise be doing the work and cost the taxpayer much less.

I just don't get it because they so easily could be raising government revenue through the profits while providing a social good during a housing crisis. Are they scared that the housing market will crash or something?

Good point, I think I'd be fine with that too.

If there aren't weed dispensaries, how would it be taxed and regulated?

Yeah it's just frustrating because I feel like it'd soften so many of our problems as a society.

Ugh I can't wait to get into politics myself.

My dad also voted against it, he said he supports legalizing it but he voted no because it was "written badly." But in reality it's because he's a contrarian and would vote against anything the greens or labour came up with. (Act voter btw, when I asked what was wrong with the bill he had no answer)

I was meaning in addition to a CGT - that would be used to raise government revenue, not for a tax switch in my ideal world.

I disagree with the idea that we don't need more parties but I do think it's weird that they just randomly showed up on bluesky

Sure but those are actually rights for the parents, not the children.

I think it's something like

The second part is ideal but in the mean time we need the first part

I would look into the difference between hot and cold decision making.

I say this as someone who likes a lot of green policy but is ultimately deciding to join the labour party.

Interesting. I see them all as the same, unless there's a biological reason that says otherwise

e.g. criminal responsibility (because of hot decision-making), alcohol, cannabis use

Sure but it's about the fact that they are afforded full working rights. I think that shows that it's not only a "they pay taxes" thing, it's a "they pay taxes and get the benefits" thing. I see voting rights as a benefit for being a functional citizen in a democratic society.

The counter argument for this one is that according to the bill of rights, no one over 16 should be discriminated against based on age - in addition, 16 year olds are entitled to minimum wage and *almost* full working rights therefore they are also expected to be paying taxes exactly like adults

Cool, thank you!!!
