Message reads: A year ago, we were hit with the full force of Helene and I didn't get the proper chance to celebrate this story. I was lucky to have been with my family then and though we've since had to return to our very different lives, I am lucky to keep carrying them with me. (This is figurative, they are all alive). I had a lot of fun writing this story and I hope you have a lot of fun reading it, if you have not already. Below the message, the emoticon from before, which emerged from behind a wall to give a present has since retreated and is giving a thumbs up. The present remains by itself.

Every time I visit my parents I see this brush my father's had since his culinary school days. It's lost a good portion of its bristles, is supported by cardboard on both sides, and is almost the same age as the First Born (approx. 35ish years).

Mid dumpling making. Ground pork mixture ready to be scooped into the open wrapper in OP's palm. The microwave clock reads 2:21am. Two containers of finished dumplings sit in the fridge.
