god was trying to create a well-balanced unit but accidentally nerfed me too much and now i have to suffer the consequences
i find most discussions about characters' moral greyness boring and uninspired but it's really funny when the character in question isn't even human and any notion of human morality is completely foreign to them

what bugs me the most about all those character coding arguments is that i think people tend to forget that coding requires intent from the author and you really have to ask yourself "how likely is the creator of this work to imply such coding and why would they do it"

i feel like among all the possible universes within the book there are ones that don't meet dazai's criteria of a happy life for odasaku (=being alive and writing novels) but turn out way better than the beast one

my hottest bsd take is that og odasaku was never going to leave the mafia and start writing novels cause it wasn't really about that. it was something he convinced himself he needed to do and not something he actively desired to accomplish (even if he didn't fully realize it)
