I have to conclude that the vast majority of household hazmat/ewaste in DC is going into the regular trash.

Very clever.

I should say, this is really a school problem. Everyone working understands that it's necessary (and good!) to have small text on CDs. Slides for projection and laptops are appropriately scaled. It's for formal pinups that folks lose their judgement.

I will admit that, in running graphic design crits, I'd often be coaching students to stand up and look at the (say) 8×10 in. sheets we were discussing from close up, from the intended and practicable viewing distance, but students do eventually develop some awareness.

If you think that, when showing work in a room that's equipped with a projector, the right way to present ideas is to print out 36×24 in. sheets and make everyone sit 30 ft. away, glued to chairs like they're Sam Lowry in the closing scene of Brazil, something is wrong.

The “I made tea with the irrigation water at the park and now I have an infection” bit almost sounds as if it came from an Authority of the Resource training.

Was talking w. DDOT team at tonight's event—MoveDC does show Irving + Columbia as transit priority streets. I note that Harvard and Kenyon/Park are the bike priority streets going all the way through, though there are stubs of bike facilities on the plan btwn 14th and 16th.

Deranged.

Amazing.

I know there was a particular outspoken opponent, but in the 500 block — they were out with a petition and a card table set up in the PBL a couple of summers ago, backed up by He Who Shall Not Be Named.

The most tactically sound course may be to push for a protected bike lanes on Harvard and Kenyon/Park. The best design would take the parking on Irving/Columbia for good sidewalks and a PBL, but that may not be politically feasible. bsky.app/profile/post...
Especially when this is precisely the missing link between Kenyon St PBL, Columbia PBL, and the upcoming 11th street PBLs. It should be here, and if it isn't here then it needs to be immediately implemented somewhere very close

Columbia and Irving are narrow in Columbia Heights, 28' and 30' curb-to-curb for most of the neighborhood, so there's little room for bus lanes, adequate sidewalks, and bike lanes, plus a travel lane, even if DDOT's willing to remove street parking.
November 4, 2025 at 2:36 PM
It's a critical spot. The narrow right-of-way widths are a limitation, but the bike link *has* to go somewhere nearby.
November 4, 2025 at 2:33 PM
I think this'll be a great improvement for bus passengers. The added sidewalk space is good, but Columbia east of 16th desperately needs more room too—parts of that sidewalk are not over 5' wide. And there's little to help bike safety here—needs to be paired w. protected bike lanes elsewhere.

Can't make the meeting? You can provide your thoughts in a survey, open through Dec. 5. buspriority.ddot.dc.gov/pages/crosst...

The most ambitious concept in this project would add bus lanes across Columbia Heights, with some sidewalk expansions and safety improvements. bsky.app/profile/imag...
DDOT's concept development presentation is out, for the Mt. Pleasant–Columbia Heights bus priority project. The agency's proposing a roundabout at the lunatic intersection of Harvard, Argonne, and "Little Harvard"!
