If you think 40k's Imperium Of Man is good, or defensible, or even a "necessary evil," you have COMPLETELY missed the point of the setting.
The Imperium a corrupt, oppressive, xenophobic theocracy incapable of change.
It is evil at every conceivable scale of scrutiny, and isn't subtle about it.
