Does bsky use a proxy?

How would the subscription model work with federation?

Can I use these features on a self-hosted PDS?

How will account transfers work for paid accounts?

They are currently focusing on polishing and adding all features that can be public.

Since atproto is a completely open network, it will take a while before features that are meant to be visible only to you or certain users are available.

Official feeds, including "Following" are powered by in-house algorithms developed by the Bluesky team.

Source: 'Algorithmic Choice' blog post by Bluesky, with several mentions in the application itself, as shown in the screenshot below.

There is actually an algorithm. A common misconception.

I recommend yt-dlp as it's faster, ripping directly from YouTube instead of going through another site.

Frontends/UIs for yt-dlp:

- Seal by Junkfood for Android

- yt-dlg for Windows & macOS

- Cobalt is your best option for iOS (A-shell is an option but less user-friendly)

fr when will you have time to finish it?
October 20, 2024 at 3:53 PM
Sorry, but not every feed is manual. Yes — some are, but some also are algorithmic, e.g. the default Discover feed.

Oh, God. Why are so many misinformed about algorithms on Bluesky? A good chunk of the users think that it does not have an algorithm. :(

Btw, it seems like custom feeds can create algorithms like "Discover" too. It is not just limited to manual classification.
October 18, 2024 at 6:44 PM
I've been here since closed beta. This is a new account. Bluesky's "Algorithmic Choice" blog post discusses using algorithms. Try it by liking, following, commenting, etc. Your "Discover" feed should change gradually. Ad hominem attacks aren't nice, regardless of someone's activity or newness.
October 18, 2024 at 6:20 PM
Bluesky does use an algorithm for Discovery. I am not sure about the usage of algorithms in custom feeds though... probably possible, but hard I guess.
