Moreover, if we fail to highlight that misogyny is central to this kind of lateral policing of men by other men, that the entire purpose is to shore up the supremacy of manhood, we fail to identify the correct remedy. People fixate on "virtuous manhood" instead of women's liberation.

If you actually have legit connections in one way or another to the culture that’s one thing! but I think if basically the only time you’ve seen or heard someone say inshallah is on the internet you probably shouldn’t be using it all the time yourself lol

In that case jihad is used to rhetorically contrast its use in an Islamic context, to talk abt religious patriarchy. Would be gross and paternalistic coming from a white westerner but makes perfect sense from a Pakistani filmmaker. Context is everything

It absoltely can be orientalist and/or disrespectful coming from a white non-Muslim person but targeting people from Muslim and/or Arab backgrounds for this is weird.

(Posted wrong link before) here’s an example of jihad used to describe feminist struggle vc.bridgew.edu/cgi/viewcont...

Not saying it can’t be used in appropriative or orientalist ways if done by white ppl but it’s weird to target ppl from Arab and/or Muslim backgrounds for this, whether they are using it irreverently or more seriously

jihad means struggle, the use of jihad to refer to various forms of struggle is not inherently bigoted though it certainly can be. There is precedence for using jihad to refer to eg the struggle for womens lib

There will never be a real survey on this so asking for stats is a complete non-starter. But I do think that (despite my sympathy towards those who believe it) it is a pretty fundamentally anti-solidarity idea that has the same ultimate effect as the anti-solidarity ideas that invert the roles

For various reasons I am broadly more sympathetic to this attitude then the inverse even though I don’t agree with it. But it’s odd how in some circles it would be a very controversial idea where in others it’s basically an unspoken assumption
