Using density functional theory calculations, researchers from ILL and Chalmers University of Technology modeled how hydride ions diffuse under different conditions and quantified how 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 affects the 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫 that a 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 to move from one site to another.

➕➖➖ Mixed-anion materials are chemical compounds that contain positive ions (cations) and more than one kind of negative ions (anions) within a single crystal structure. This mixing of anions modifies bond strengths, enhances chemical reactivity and enables faster anion diffusion.

ᯓ➤ data used to develop a mathematical tool which allows to obtain 3D models of any protein-membrane system

Read our webarticle to understand why the model developed by Cedric Gommes is highly adaptable and widely applicable to various membrane-protein complexes.
