The biggest challenge in learning music production was the idea of being able to categorise results into right and wrong. It took at least as long to un-learn all the rules and to be able to move freely between these two polarities as it did to achieve satisfactory results.

After more than 20 years, my relationship with the DAW is reliable. The kind of conversation I have with it feels intuitive and trusting. Where there is intimacy, complications are not far away. Familiar patterns become established in and a certain paralysing habituation kicks in.
