Finally back to focusing on art & illustration. It’s been a while…
Season's Greetings to all.
As always, may your Christmas be merry & your New Year happy...

This year’s Christmas illustration is provided by the masterful Maxfield Parrish. This is one of his later period (seasonal) landscapes.

It looks like Predator: Badlands is both a critical and commercial success. I’ve not seen it yet but I’ve had a number of recommendations that I should.
A long time ago a did a bunch of sketchbook Alien drawings, including this one. Blue pencil & ink on 170gsm Windsor & Newton paper.

Nightcrawler, a 1980’s cover for a Marvel UK X-Men reprint comic.
It did also feature Ice Man but I was never happy with the way he turned out!

Drew Struzan, RIP.
This week we lost the brilliant modern master of movie posters, Drew Struzan.
The Internet has, rightfully, been awash with love and praise this week, which you may have already seen.

Hellfire(fanzine) cover rough & unfinished pencils, probably late 1980’s. A classic example of the energy of the rough being lost in the finished illustration!

Thor & Spider-Man poster, drawn for Marvel UK, probably in the late 1970s.

Cerebus Quartet - 2019: These were done old school, in blue pencil & ink in a Strathmore sketchbook.
As Letratone/Letraline is no longer readily available, I had to resort to scanning the tone from an old backgrounds reference book&the borders from a 1970’s copy of a Letraset catalogue.

Vic Boone: Malfunction Murder - Cover Rough 2010/11. Created by Shawn Aldridge, 'Vic Boone is a private investigator in a world etched by the science fiction of drive-in movies and early Hollywood. It’s a landscape of robots, ray guns, talking gorillas, mad scientists, and human flies...'

Rivers Of London - Cry Fox issue 2 comic cover 2018.
I’m a big fan of Ben Aaronovitch’s RoL novels. So I lobbied to get a cover for the comic.
I ended up getting three but this one is the most successful.

The Surfer, done as a cover for one of Marvel UK’s many reprint comics. Cover dated March 1983. The original artwork side by side with the published version.

My newest piece of work, is not an illustration as such, but rather an elevation plan of Forbidden Planet’s newest store in London’s Camden Town.

It’s the site of the former Mega City Comics store and I was asked to design & project manage the refit.

It’s well worth a visit if you ever in London.

David Bowie Red Star: This was drawn to commemorate the January 2018 anniversary of David’s passing. I was never happy with the colour version, which I rushed, hence this being just the b&w pencils!

From the late 1980s, if I remember correctly…
