She/her. On Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. Writer of RPGs, classics nerd, quilter, lapsed martial artist. My Dad punched Nazis and so will I.
I bought what I thought was a skinny quarter roll, but alas it was only 8” instead of 9”. So I changed my entire plan and started playing with HRTs instead. Previously I’ve hated HRTs, but Latifah’s Hurty ruler truly makes it easy. #quiltsky

I think this was my favourite make in 2024. I was supposed to he cutting 45 degree angles and instead I cut 60s, so I had to improv the whole thing. I call it “60 in a 40 zone”. Just need to work how to quilt it…

My 2024, according to TopNine, was mostly about one quilt! What I actually did was six new flimsies and seven completed quilts.

I promised myself I was going to start a quilt today, but I got distracted by needing new floor pillows.

I was reminded today of reading Robert Graves’ translation of Lucan’s Pharsalia, whose introduction basically boils down to: “I hate this book, but I’m translating it anyway.”

What’s a good translation of Lucan?

Best nerdy birthday present! This will be living on the dining table for dipping into over several months, methinks.

I want to give a shout out to one of my very favourite Homer adaptations: Paris. Yes, Jon English did a rocking musical of the Trojan war. I can sing it end to end. It is a glory. Spoiler: Paris dies.

I just finished this little glory of a book, my second run through it. I last read it not long after its release, in the safe pre covid days. I must say, the chapter about the Black Plague hits quite differently after the lockdowns.

We have a habit of watching a horror movie on Saturday nights. Tonight was “La Llorona” (2019). Now my brain is drawing parallels to “Trojan Women”’ and I feel another serious RPG coming on.

Generally feeling very much like one of Matsumoto Hoji’s frogs today.

I have to put up something for a first post, so why not? This quilt, finished just a few weeks ago, is one of my proudest achievements. It’s called “Wrath”. It’s based on my very favorite poem, Homer’s Iliad.
