Trying to leave finance for music but escape plan thwarted by Long-Covid
Finally, there's an N of 1 report of metformin being effective in LC tinnitus. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Not relevant to your case perhaps, but if you notice yours worsen after caffeine...

I hope something in there helps and you find relief soon.

It can also cause Hashimoto's, which is associated with increased risk of tinnitus, so consider a full thyroid panel (not just TSH). One possible mechanism in hypothyroidism, and more generally, is reduced cochlear blood flow, for which pycnogenol and ginkgo biloba may help.

His website has further info, including a diagnostic flowchart www.4myear.com and he's speaking at tinnitusreliefsummit.com on Wednesday - may be useful.

Covid can lead to all the subtypes, including pulsatile. In particular, it can infect and damage the inner ear, so worth getting a hearing test.

The essay part: Dr Michael Golenhofen has some (reassuring) YT videos explaining how to identify and treat each of the 3 main subtypes - cochlear (from sudden hearing loss), somatic (from issues with physical structures, e.g. neck, jaw), and central (from processing issues in the auditory cortex).

and the background activity of the auditory system can become audible as tinnitus. So using white/pink/? noise to mask the stressor of the tinnitus sound is helpful in removing that feedback loop and aiding habituation. Taking breaks from engaging with the ongoing apocalypse also a good plan.

taurine (supports brain's ability to filter out background activity of the auditory system), B12, B1, copper (if deficient. Unsure of causal relationship, but correlated). Worth mentioning that stress can absolutely cause/worsen tinnitus: when on 'high alert', our usual auditory filtering is lifted

😞
Treatment would depend on your subtype(s) of tinnitus...
Before I write an essay, did yours begin/worsen after a Covid infection/vaccine?...
In the meantime, some initial supplements with a good chance of helping: magnesium (calms the nervous system. Threonate and bisglycinate forms),

If I make custard I lose interest in the pie/crumble! I’ll just put a dessert spoon of pudding in the middle of the bowl and drown it in custard! Cream I can do in moderation! Not custard!

Have you visited Tenfu’s online store? They have some really heavenly teas!

Hope you’re negative! I expect you will be 😊

I’m so careful! Always shut the windows before deliveries. Never answer the door. But when they rock up 5 hours early… I’ve just been through a round of reinfection or relapse after the neighbours decided to host a superspreader event (kids bday party) in their garden. Can’t deal with another!

So I know Nasofed irritates my nose and that probably explains the PND and coughing but I can’t help worrying the courier had Covid.
October 4, 2023 at 12:09 PM
Sorry to hear that. I’m wrecked too. And nervous. I used Nasofed because despite the courier messaging me he’d come ~1830 he appeared at 1300 whilst I had the window wide open. I missed the Ring notification when he pulled up and only heard him when he was right below the window. Unmasked of course.

Yes! And it irritates my throat and makes me cough. I didn’t manage to sleep at all last night for this very reason. I think it may have been exacerbated by Nasofed antiviral nasal spray. But it’s been bad for a while. Would love to know how to fix it too!
