If the standard is really to protect actors’ rights and pay, shouldn’t the union be more proactive about making room for these studios and negotiating for higher standards across all projects, rather than focusing on strictly enforcing “no non-union work” policies?

If so much of the industry is non-union, shouldn’t the union adapt to these conditions rather than have stricter rules around working for non-union studios?

I get the argument about actors doing non-union gigs to build their name, and it’s definitely true that conventions play a big role in a lot of VAs’ income. But what I don’t fully understand is why SAG-AFTRA doesn’t have a more consistent policy or structure around non-union work.

I did wanna start by saying that my criticisms of what some VAs have said are from the information I gathered outside the fandom. I just point out things I disagree or don't make sense, I myself left the community because its a toxic cesspit in general, I hate it.
