Adding to this: with how different the gameplay is, being a separate game on steam would have probably reached more people than being in the news/game page for users that had BROK in their library, and you could funnel them to the main game with a bundle since it is derived.

What is maddening to me is that it has been years and I am still SO intrigued by the endings that I want a continuation. And I'm like really saddened with these news is that I might be in my 30s when I finally get to see the continuation... or worse depending on how bad it is.

It would have expanded on what the character's refer in the early parts of the game and even the middle and you could even play it before playing the main game, that would have been awesome!

I did expect this to happen back when I saw the DLC on steam, I thought it was really weird to add a fighting club add-on after the game ending being so strong, it was such a stark contrast to what I had experienced.

BROK main appeal was the story and its characters, it is a detective game after all. When you make a DLC that has do little to do with the main game you are going against the fanbase you have created, some may be interested to support the devs or just overall interest but that's the minority.

You should have probably release as a separate game rather than a dlc as the scope of this grew, imo it seems like this is just a new game all together that is rather distant from the detective narrative of the game.

Latter, I loved playing BROK and got really invested in the story and the gameplay. When I heard of a DLC, I was really hyped, like a prequel or something like that? Sign me in! Then I read it was just a beat 'em up (in short), and that turned me down instantly, and I tuned it out.
