Homophobic straight guys sometimes won't even properly wipe their own asses out of fear of it being gay. It's little wonder that some people who are absolutely terrified of their own assholes and don't know how to take care of themselves will project that other people are dirty.

No. They assume nothing so mechanical or clean. They couldn't conceive that my husband and I have been screwing for over a decade and likely had fewer gross moments than an average straight couple.

If I were to guess what pseudo-incest means, they don't want people using the term daddy in a sexual way. So leather daddy fetishists might be sol.

People need to start pushing back against NoFap. It's not scientific, and it's allowed this abstinence moralism bullshit to seep into the whole of society. People stopped buying the church stuff, so they rebranded it as unhealthy, and a new moral panic is spreading.

Your scale is based on distilled water at ocean level. Water can be brought to a boil at room temperature at low pressures, and it can be made solid at room temperatures at high enough pressures. C is based on a very specific experience specific to a region of the earth under the right conditions..

It's arbitrary. It's not like metric where you're doing multiple of tens and everything is simpler. People just chose two states of a common molecule and decided it sounded scientific enough. You guys need to get a little more humble about this one. It's stupid and random like most things.

Same. In my case it kept telling me to use menu options that didn't exist. I really wish the models wouldn't lie. I can accept something like, "I can't find sufficient information," or, "this is the best I can find," but lying is just wasting my time needlessly.

There's also this gross thing happening where the model praises people and calls them smart, and it's creating cults. I worry that that is a new algorithmic hook that companies are going to exploit to capture users. That seems like societal poison. Really catastrophic.

I really don't get the fascination with ChatGPT. Recent study was that it was right only 50% of the time. Perplexity is the best at only 70%. I'll use perplexity to cut through the internet, because it gives sources and shows it's process. I can easily check things. But chatgpt.. oof. Terrible.

Very scammy. Over promising.
I don't get how people rely on this stuff. I don't know if I'm missing some experience, but the stuff I try is very hard to direct and often gives me a lot I don't want. It's a dopamine blast, like doom scrolling. Occasional gems, but not a reliable tool.

Business people want it because they can use it to undercut the wages of average people and maybe get the holy grail of a new type of slave labor that doesn't need to sleep and can't sue for damages.

I don't get why companies are investing as hard as they are. It's an arm race with irretrievable amounts of debt that can be undercut by grad students six months later putting out open source models for free. It's irredeemably risky.
I can get why business people want it..

ComfyUI. I'm trying to create more precise compositions using control nets and compositing, and so far that tool has the most options. It isn't perfect.. just better than others.
I'm curious about Stream Diffusion on Touch Designer, but I haven't found if it can support other base models.

It's hard to post what the slew of problems we have to overcome, even before getting to the political division. I know if we dropped the divisive bullshit it could be fixed, but until that fever brakes (if it breaks) there's little hope here. Only thing keeping me is friends and fam.

I don't disagree. I think we suck at creating free communal spaces now. I think that's our cult of business. They've been gutting anything public. There used to be public pools and parks. Far fewer now and not nearly as well kept. The ones that do exist are community maintained, so the spirit exists

To your question, 🤞people give up on the obviously not working shit we've been trying since the eighties. That said, I've been shocked how it stubbornly persists, so I make no bets that there will ever be a return to sanity.

It feels like that's what america is about, because tribalism has turned their ideology into jingoistic chants you see everywhere, but at an individual level everyone knows the system is corrupt and is made for the rich. We're hitting the point of absurdity where that miiiiiight finally fall apart.
April 4, 2025 at 5:22 AM
The thing you describe is the cult of business and money. It's been around for a long time, and seems bigger than it is, because they've been using religious communities and partisan hackery to create a powerful enduring coalition.
April 4, 2025 at 5:19 AM
There's a couple main forces now. The cult of business and money, and the desperate screwed people clinging to anyone who claims to have a solution to their problems. That latter group is going for republicans, because republicans don't care about lying and saying they can fix shit they can't.

bloomed. Antiestablishment came into alignment against the administration (Obama) and brought in Trump. Trump reached for the old playbook and sought to ramp up divide. Repubs suck at helping people, so economics got worse. Pandemic caused inflation, making eco even worse. People are desperate.

When dems came in, tea party caught the growing anger at the state of the nation, and directed it at dems. Huge political shift with 2010 redistricting. More extreme politicians were planted, who in turn ramped up partisan rhetoric. Became normalized to lie about opponents. Into that conspiricism..
