Doctor Worm
@iidrwormii.bsky.social
I'm not a real doctor, but I am a real worm.
Mine is either "flesh out" vs. "flush out" or "apart" vs. "a part"

Well, I've looked through all the responses so far and no one has shared my favorite yet:

Agent for H.A.R.M.

It has a joke in it that made me laugh so hard that I literally thought I was going to suffocate. An all-time great that's terribly overlooked.

Probably Astro Bot. And also Rise of the Golden Idol in there somewhere between the core game and the expansions.

Minor point (and I'm not saying this is better), but he didn't fuck up the wedding recording. They had a videographer. The video he took was for... personal use, I suppose. 😬

Like, I'd say A Christmas Carol is more explicitly a Christmas movie than It's a Wonderful Life, which just happens to take place around Christmas. But they're both Christmas movies, you know? I suppose I'm more descriptive than prescriptive. Do people watch it because of Christmas? There you go.

I would also agree that the standard for a holiday movie is to watch it because of that holiday. Not sure why that also means you're not allowed to watch it any other time. Maybe those are just even more holiday-ee?

The fact that there's a debate is exactly why it ISN'T a forgone conclusion. That's what the debate's about. To quote George Carlin, "If it's undisputed, what's all the fighting about?"

Ooh, that works much better.

So you get to say, but I don't? That's fine, but that also means it's arbitrary as a deciding factor and thus practically useless in taxonomic discussion.

If you don't think MOST Christmas movies are in some way about capitalism...

Also, Gruber's speech about Nakatomi's greed was a red herring. His motive was also explicitly greed. Not sure what that does to your metaphor...

But why is that a distinction? I'd watch Nightmare Before Christmas in August. Is THAT not a Christmas movie? I'd watch Halloween in February. Is that not a Halloween movie? It seems like a useless distinction designed solely so you can be right.
