What is also unique in Switzerland is long term (+20 y) national and local plans for public transport. In most other countries it is disjointed short term planning and start-stop-replan… cycles. The Lausanne station modernisation programme is till 2037, over many electoral cycles.

I am curious if this means (re-)introducing 1st class to Austrian trains beyond IC, EC or RJ trains. If I have understood correctly, currently only long distance trains have more than one class.

Are 1st class tickets sold for this service?

As the train did not have a dining car, a meal stop was made in Vierumäki with a chance to visit the exhibition run by #topparoikka, a railway heritage club in Lahti, Finland

I managed to get a sleeping car compartment all for my self. These old compartments are quite nice with comfortable seats, but ride quality was not so good partially do to old track.

Salpausselkä halt is on the former branch railway line from Lahti station to Lahti Port. The is now end of the line and is used only for special trains, for instance for the skiing competitions at the adjacent ski stadium.

Tuo ongelma on juuri kaukojunien ravintolavaunussa Saksassa ja Sveitsissä, paikat täynnä läppärin kanssa työskentelijöitä eikä syömään tahdo mahtua. Syynä myös varsinkin 2 luokassa kunnon pöytien puute tavallisilta istumapaikoilta. Ravintolavaunussa on tilavat pöydät.

Unfortunately ÖBB Nightjet has become a non-option for travelling also for me due to their price increases. But it seems that there is enough demand to fill in the limited capacity offered
