An excellent meeting yesterday with Minister Peter Burke and his officials within the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment to discuss the priorities for the long-term development of Irish tourism and hospitality, our largest indigenous industry – supporting over 270,000 livelihoods.

We welcome the new National Tourism Policy launched by the Government today. By placing tourism at the heart of Government policy, this five-year strategy will help ensure the right conditions are created to support the long-term development of our industry.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to meet with Minister of State Jerry Buttimer, tourism Minister Peter Burke and Ministers of State Frank Feighan and Neale Richmond to discuss next steps for continued development of tourism and hospitality.

These meetings are hugely important for our sector.

This week the Irish Hotels Federation appeared before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Enterprise, Tourism & Employment to discuss challenges facing Irish tourism and the policy measures required to support the sustainable development of our industry.

The IHF was delighted to attend the 2025 @hotrec.bsky.social European Hospitality Day in Brussels, for a day of policy discussion at the European Parliament.

The IHF looks forward to hosting HOTREC in Cork for their General Assembly in 2026.

Great to see so many HR colleagues from across the Midlands region attend our IHF HR Fora at the Clanard Court Hotel for an informative session.

This month the Midlands Fora was joined by Ross O'Neill from Workbly and Alison Hogan from Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB).

The reinstatement of the 9% rate of VAT on food services is very welcome and an important recognition by the Government of the vital role played by Irish tourism and hospitality as the largest indigenous employer in the country.

It was great to meet with both Minister Paschal Donohoe and Minister Jack Chambers this week to discuss our policy priorities for Irish tourism in the run up to #Budget2026. A key focus for the IHF and are our industry partners is the restoration of the 9% VAT rate for hospitality food services.
