We are excited to announce the IHC's 2025-26 public events series, On Fire, that will present speakers who are examining flashpoints of our volatile present and envisioning new collective practices that can usher in a future of regeneration, possibility, and hope.

This week, UCSB students provided Spanish interpretation for over 250 parent-teacher conferences in Santa Barbara Unified elementary schools. We are proud to work with SBUSD to support student success!

This week, UCSB students provided interpretation for over 120 parent-teacher conferences in Goleta Union elementary schools in Spanish, as well as Mandarin, Russian, and Vietnamese. We are proud to work with GUSD to support student success!

This week, over 50 UCSB students are interpreting for parent/guardian-teacher conferences at 10 local elementary schools! Interpreters gathered for training at the IHC ahead of their conference assignments to practice Spanish language interpretation. (1/2)

We were thrilled to meet this week with dozens and dozens of incarcerated students preparing to apply for admission to UCSB’s Comparative Literature program. This BA is scheduled to launch at California State Prison Corcoran in fall 2027.

This summer, junior high and high school teachers collaborated with UCSB grad students and staff from the IHC, UCSB Library, and Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation to conduct research on the history of community celebrations surrounding Fiesta and develop lesson plans for their students.
Finding Fiesta partners UCSB with local teachers for new perspectives on a century-old celebration
UCSB partners with community institutions to provide teachers troves of Fiesta history as K-12 students reexamine and interpret the annual celebration through fresh eyes.
