Latest statistics from the #UNHCR and our clients in the Samos #CCAC report:

🔵 Only 1 hour of water per day
🔵 No laundry facilities
🔵 Continued outbreak of bed bugs and scabies
February 26, 2024 at 12:40 PM
The reports also detail that since September (4,000+ population, mostly in detention) the CCAC has experienced severe water cuts.

Almost 6 months later, water is still limited. According to 2024 reports from our clients, the water has only been on for 1-3 hours/day (4/5)
February 20, 2024 at 3:20 PM
The EU documents also record the rapid deterioration of conditions in the CCAC, including the persistent lack of medical treatment in the CCAC. In September, one of the reports records that only one army doctor visited the CCAC to attend to over 4,000 people (3/5)
February 20, 2024 at 3:20 PM
In September 2023, over 70% of the population of the CCAC was detained. In October, this number rose to 83% (2/5)

‘Unregistered’ means that a person cannot leave the CCAC.

🔵 Vulnerable people are failed in the Samos Closed Controlled Access Centre.

Under Greek law, asylum seekers should undergo vulnerability assessments when they arrive in Greece. However, IHR has found that vulnerable people are never even identified and their needs are ignored by the authorities.

The European Court of Human Rights once again condemns living conditions of asylum seekers in the Samos hotspot as degrading and inhumane. Pregnant women, M.L. and M.B., faced appalling conditions, forced to live in tents while heavily pregnant.
