Last Thursday we were delighted to support the launch of the new South West and Wales regional network for the Hellenic Society. Organised by Dr Frances Pickworth, the event featured presentations from scholars and students in the area and a round-table discussion about the aims of the network.

She is currently researching Julius Pollux’s Onomasticon, an ancient encyclopaedic text written in the 2nd century AD, and is interested in how Pollux preserves fragments from lost works of Classical Greek literature.

Matthew Steggle is Professor of Early Modern English Literature at the University of Bristol. He works on many aspects of English literature, including the reception of classical literature.

Paul is Senior Lecturer in French Thought in the School of Modern Languages at Bristol. His work explores the classical roots of contemporary French thought, with a particular interest in philosophy and rhetoric.
