it creeps through your veins like lightning hot, acidic, invasive and agitating i'd call it an old friend, but it isn't a friendly feeling an old enemy perhaps, scowling in the corner of my hospital room waiting for your courage to succumb to the sheer agony that foreshadows its arrival and the best part is: as the lightning fades, and the heat melts into a simmer, the pain isn't gone and oh, how it laughs, through the distorted delirium i've fallen into— the prickling, bubbling feeling of being high remains, a horrendous sensation, but the pain it's meant to cure lingers, and the whites of my eyes glaze as they melt into the white of the hospital room walls.
