Tad Williams is one of the most underappreciated writers of fantasy and I'm so happy that he's still putting out fantastic works. Beautiful prose, engaging characters, and richly realized themes of honor and duty, this is an example of simple yet brilliant, and a prequel that doesn't suck.

This is not going to be for everyone, but man was it enthralling as hell for me. Definitely better than Gardens of the Moon and convinced me to continue this ambitious as hell series.

Honestly I've gotten tired of the whole "historical accuracy" shtick when it popped up in fantasy circles, I'm which I just say... It's not history. It's. You know. Fantasy.
