Director of communications for @cagovernor Gavin Newsom. Posts and bad opinions are mine.
And it’s a rebuttal to Susanne's extremely selective framing and biased reporting. It’s also context — something her piece is sorely lacking.

And as for my team's supposed "threat," pointing out the hypocrisy of a reporter criticizing a bottle placement while seated next to one herself is not a threat. It’s a factual rebuttal about the commonality of single-use plastics.

That’s not "highlighting symbolism." That’s editorializing with innuendo. She’s a reporter. Not a columnist. Come on.

SB 54 is a landmark law. The Governor is damn proud of it. And that’s exactly why he’s implementing it. We’re happy to debate policy, not props.

Respectfully, your colleague compared a water bottle — placed by staff — to a pandemic-era "scandal," while quoting anonymous critics likely in violation of your own newsroom's sourcing policy (see John Myers post on Twitter earlier today) and whose claims are both offensive and false.

You’re right that we didn’t respond in advance to your questions. That’s not because we don’t take media inquiries seriously. It’s because your questions, and your story, aren’t serious.

We respect critical reporting. That's not what this is — and we're going to call out framing that crosses the line from journalism into performance, which unfortunately, this “reporting” does.

Pointing out a reporter’s own proximity to a plastic bottle isn’t an attack. It’s a fair critique of Susanne’s selective outrage about our society’s use of single-use plastics, including your organization’s own heavy reliance on them.
