Basically Space Merchants, but worse. Imagine Mad Men, but with no aesthetics and all the sexism.

Fast forward a decade or two, and this is where we’re at: no flying cars or colonies on the Moon, just a total erosion of consensual reality under the weight of billions.

Connover also introduced me to the dreaded Zitron, so your mileage may wary judging from the ongoing discourse. I really want to read Hao on empire and AI, though.

She also did a great interview with Adam Connover that I liked quite a bit: youtu.be/6ovuMoW2EGk?...

The feminine teta is literally aunt (and nowadays, some even use the cuter tetka for unrelated older female).

Same in Croatian. There are funny regional differences. In Dalmatia, the older unrelated man is barba (from Italian for beard), in the north it’s striček (diminutive of stric, uncle, from protoslavic word for old man). There’s something deeply filial in “vaguely unrelated older person” eh!

Come to think of it, that’s also a highfalutin cyberpunk ethics. Hah.

The most fundamental motivation for pluralism is *humility*. We operate against a complex, inexhaustible, and unpredictable external reality. Seems unlikely to find the perfect system of science so perhaps we should foster multiple ones, each with its unique strengths.
