Finally managed to see a flying Brown Hairstreak in Essex. @lizgoodyear.bsky.social and I have found many eggs at Claybury Park (over a hundred last winter) but, until this morning, I hadn’t seen an adult there. @bc-cambs-essex.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Finally managed to see a flying Brown Hairstreak in Essex. @lizgoodyear.bsky.social and I have found many eggs at Claybury Park (over a hundred last winter) but, until this morning, I hadn’t seen an adult there. @bc-cambs-essex.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

The Arran Brown, Erebia ligea, flies in deep shade in the Alps. Fresh specimens have a dainty chequered white fringe, which helps ID. @europebutterfly.bsky.social

Paid a flying visit to the eastern fells yesterday hoping to catch a very early Mountain Ringlet and ended up seeing the start of a full emergence. I counted nearly 30 in fairly chilly, often overcast conditions. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @richardfoxbc.bsky.social

One final Brown Hairstreak egg search today with @idwatts.bsky.social south along the River Ching (Epping Forest) to Highams Park. Blackthorn buds bursting! Just two eggs in a combined time of 7 hours so hard work! Lots of sallows though 😁 @bc-cambs-essex.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

A very successful return visit to Claybury Park in #LBRedbridge. With @idwatts.bsky.social we found 63 #BrownHairstreak eggs today making a total from 2 visits over 100!!!! 8hrs x 2 in total. @bc-cambs-essex.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social #BigCityButterflies. Some still very white!
