I understand why companies do this but it's not because of more danger. Think GMail and how that was the major source of spammers in the past. The decision to spam those is not extra caution, it's either lazy or inexperienced IT.

Also note that ProtonMail uses DKIM and DMARC so that emails coming from their own domain names cannot be easily spoofed. Personalized domains still reference Proton MX records so there is always a way to tell when Proton servers are the source.

Not sure what you mean by “overestimating the number of users this impacts”. I’m not estimating anything. I see the number of emails per domain. Also, I’m a Proton user and have never had an email blocked or filtered in over 7 yrs. Never heard from anyone I’ve recommended it to ever been filtered

That’s an inexperienced security posture for a company to take. Typically, isolated systems handle ingestion of email and processing for malware before moving to internal individuals. Not perfect but more logical than blocking huge swaths of users. I’m in IT. Never been an issue for us.

Check out Proton Mail. A Swiss company offering privacy first email from free accounts to paid sibscriptions. I gave GMail the boot some time ago because of their invasive T&C.
