Just remember the tabula rasa (e.g. clean slate) approach works best. I'm saying from the experience :)

What work is it exactly?

Erlang (and, by the extent, Elixir) makes writing concurrent applications a *breeze* (I shit you not). Supporting them is less pleasant, though, but that's because of lack of types and sum types in particular.

I'm using Haskell to get shit done cheap, reliably, fast (pick three). Oh, and fearless refactoring/tinkering. In order to achieve a similar level of assuredness with C & C++ you need all the relevant *SANs and a couple of static analyzers, and you'll still fucked by the compiler every so often.
