Warsaw's #FirstSnow. I guess winter's here.

OK, the Iranian regime has no-one to blame for this water crisis but itself. But what could international solidarity with Iranian civilians - i.e. those least responsible for this mess but most affected by it - look like?

Yeah, the energy transition in central and eastern Europe is well underway, but it's not nearly as fast or coherent as it should've been. The same govovernments are actively procrastinating coal exits and aggressively push for fossil gas expansion. www.reuters.com/business/ene...

The most succinct description of the road ahead for Gaza I've come across:

Now, some of the most prominent traces here are signs announcing financial support for reconstruction projects.
Resilience sure is crucial. But I can't help but ponder the EU's meager contribution to the loss and damage fund. #COP30

Just back from a quick visit to Nysa, in southern Poland, a little over a year after climate-fueled floods inundated communities throughout central Europe.

On September 15, 2024, when this gauge registered record 692cm, streets filled up with water and many had to evacuate.

Yay! First time I meet a bison in the wild -- in the Bialowieza Forest. Especially happy it was with my daughter.

Actually, the last aurochs is also commemorated in the name of a nearby gym. That's located, ahm..., above a butcher shop.

Finally managed to visit this monument, dedicated to the last aurochs, hunted outside Warsaw nearly 400 years ago.
Since we're well into the 6th mass extinction, there must be some memorialization for other bygone species, right?

A year ago today, major climate-fueled floods struck central and eastern Europe.
About a hundred meters from where an elderly family relative lives, the Nysa Kłodzka river recorded its highest level at 692cm. The water level now, at 145cm, is especially low, likely in line with the current drought.

The Israeli enviro movement is silent no more on war crimes in Gaza.
Over 500 have already signed this public statement calling to immediately end the war, free all captives and let unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza: environment2025.wixsite.com/endwar

This evening in central Warsaw, a city that speaks 'never again' more than any other.

Horrid. Turns out that, some time in late 2024-early 2025, Israel has actually deported "few tens of thousands" of Gazans -- with, i.a, "indirect budget lines of the US administration," as per a new Ynet story: www.ynet.co.il/news/article...

Visited BP's London headquarters with @mila-quebec.bsky.social's This Climate Does Not Exist (thisclimatedoesnotexist.com/en/share/3e8...).
This might be an AI simulation but floods, heatwaves, storms and forest fires are as real as the massive profits the fossil fuel industry rakes in.
July 13, 2025 at 4:03 PM
In September 2024, the central Warsaw gauge on the Vistula recorded the lowest level at 20cm. Now, it's at 15cm and the @imgwmeteo.bsky.social model projects a further drop to 12cm within days.

And a call for some soul searching in mainstream media:
(Especially since this but the latest in a string of studies consistently showing most people want the climate crisis tackled. See 89percent.org)

Now that the Israel-Iran showdown is over, many Israelis - and with them, many around the world - might be feeling it's back to normal. Except what the Israeli army is doing in Gaza is anything but normal.
War crimes must NEVER be normalized.

Now, Israeli media reporting an Iranian missile hit the oil refinery complex in Haifa last night (for the second time), igniting a fire (that's still burning) and killing three men.

Disclosures to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange from Friday and Saturday confirm Chevron and Energean have been instructed to halt fossil gas production in their Leviathan and Karish rigs, respectively.
The Tamar rig likely still operating, but expect more coal shipments.
June 15, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Once again, civilians in Iran and Israel are caught between (also targeted by) two fundamentalist, bellicose regimes.
End the war -- including the assault on Gaza.

Also, difficult to tell whether the plant's shutdown was guided by a just transition process. There's plenty on technology - even renewables (bar wind energy) - but hardly anything about the women and men who used to work there.
