Husband. Father. Scientist. Want to believe in the good in people.
Government funding is tied to interests of all kinds; some research is funded better than other because there is political will - incl lobbying - to do so. If you think that’s disinformation you’re naive. At issue here is that allocated funds can and will be denied despite positive scientific review

Not likely. Funding is always political in the way it steers science and science accepted that for better or worse reasons. This one is more blatant and disrespectful of expertise in the process. Professional associations could call for a refusal of review for calls that are biased by design 🫩

If peer review is cosmetics it’s unprofessional to peer review; a waste of time and self humiliation for the reviewers.

What does that have to do with young Woody Allen?

Not sure the way to deal with this is in the legal realm. Clearly these actions are a message and the sender is waiting for an answer. “wel’ll see what laws you broke although it’s really complicated” is almost certainly the wrong answer.

That bridge is called university. It transports public grant money to biotech companies already.

Interesting. You equate experience with understanding?

Why?

Well, if that’s what people admire in him I’m happy to be in the other crowd. Financial success isn’t an indicator of being either good nor intelligent. There’s more to these categories than buying ideas and snuffing competition.

What you describe is called ruthless, not intelligent.

That might be confirmation bias? I’m sure there’s many Elon persona out there who failed.

Just that this veering didn‘t happen. Science literacy is low. Not saying that momentum in fine arts hasn’t been lost. Just don’t make this a STEM vs fine arts discussion. It’s the general approach to K12 education that needs scrutiny.
