anyway, my bff laura was an amazing person and i miss her constantly. cancer sucks. tell the people in your life that you love them while they're still here. i don't have any profound insights, just that it's been 10 years and i sometimes feel like i just talked to her yesterday. 8/8

good morning from st augustine fl. the sunrise was particularly lovely and dramatic and i had a nice long morning walk on the beach to start my day.
sunrise on an east coast florida beach. the sand is very dark at the bottom. orange and gold light reflect off the water where it meets the shoreline. on the horizon there are colors ranging from dark gray at the bottom through red, orange, gold, pale yellow, and pink. a light blue is just starting to show at the top and there is part of a thin cloud at the top left. a zoomed in, dreamier look at the sunrise. the colors are the same as the previous picture but softer and more muted. there are black specks dotted across the sky, the silhouettes of pelicans and gulls circling and diving for breakfast.

good (late) morning from st augustine fl
the beach on a sunny east coast florida day. the waves are pretty gentle and in colors of pale green through teal and dark blue. there's a bit of white foam on the breakers and at the bottom is a glimpse of pale tan sand. the sky is a pale blue.

the beach just before sunrise. it's partly cloudy today so the colors aren't very vibrant, mostly very pale yellow and pink with dark clouds low on the horizon and lighter, wispy clouds higher up in the sky. the waves are pretty calm and the tide is coming in.

an east coast florida beach sunrise. the sand is dark because the sun isn't fully up but across the small waves of the atlantic ocean are colors of orange, gold, and yellow with pale blue at the top. there are thin dark clouds stretched across the sky low on the horizon. two jack-o'-lanterns lying next to each other on the sand, which looks dark gray in the dim pre-dawn light. the jack-o'-lantern on the right has triangle eyes and nose but no mouth. the jack-o'-lantern on the left is upside down with triangle eyes a round nose and a wide smiling mouth. this one has had its cavity packed with sand so the facial features look like they were made with sand.

yesterday when i woke up i had a dog. today i don't. rip rosie, 2011-2025. you were the most amazing, perfect dog ever and i'm so grateful we found each other and got to spend 11.5 years together. i will miss you forever. 💔

i shamelessly swiped this from the explore.org chat but for anyone getting excited about the return of the brooks falls bear cams, bear 909 has made an appearance with two adorable spring cubs! the cameras will probably go live in mid to late june, so not much longer. 🥰🐻

my mailbox nest has eggs! mama and i scared the crap out of each other when i peeked in because i wasn't expecting to see her, but now that i know it's not a dummy nest i'm going to try to sneak a pic of her sitting on the eggs without disturbing her again.
a carolina wren's nest, made mostly from pine needles and moss, with four (i think?) small beige with speckles eggs in the center. the nest is inside a brass mailbox mounted to the front of my house.

when i first moved into my new house a bird had started building a nest in my mailbox. i (reluctantly) cleared it out. it started happening a 2nd time and again i cleared it out. 3rd time's the charm? i'm hoping my mail carrier will work with me to let her be this time.

i am very much not looking to adopt a second dog but sometimes i enjoy browsing petfinder to see what dogs are available in my area. this dog has hypnotized me and devoured my soul and i'm not even mad about it.
a brown and white medium sized dog stares into the camera with eyes so pale blue they almost look white, with tiny dark pupils at the center. this dog's eyes make cupcake dog's eyes look normal. the dog also has a goofy little blep happening. he is very cute but might also be possessed by a demon. i love him and someone who is not me should adopt him immediately and maybe get him an exorcism.

i stopped by petco to get some dog and cat treats and, as usual, i walked around the store to say hi to all the animals for sale. there were way too many leopard geckos in this little tank but look how cute all these bébés are!
a whole bunch of small lizards with black, brown, and white markings piled on each other in a 3 tiered fake rock feature inside a glass aquarium. there are several plastic plants behind them and a food dish on the left.

neighborhood cryptid was looking especially cute/spooky the other day lurking in my overgrown jungle of a yard. 😍 my yard guy is coming today to do some spring cleanup but not much, because the wild, chaotic yard with tons of mature plants was a big reason why i bought this house.

good morning, bsky. since the move, holly has been staying upstairs most of the time in the couple of spots where she feels safest, but last night she got very brave and cuddled with me for a while on the sofa downstairs. 🥰

a large groundhog stares at me across some slightly overgrown grass. behind it are some rose bushes and a wood fence. the same groundhog, looking slightly to the right. no shaming but this is a groundhog that has never been hungry a day in its life. it looks a little like a miniature brown bear.
