Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles stood at the edge of the valley of snow. All that remained of this world was darkness, darkness as far as the eye could see, with a shining white glow as all that separated their foe from the endless night. Team Fighters was beat, despite what their leader would tell you, the antler-ed figure had bested them. The brain was fresh out of ideas, the brawn no longer had the strength to fight, and as they lay bruised and beaten, the wind started to fall silent. “Sonic…what are we gonna do…?” Tails struggled to ask, completely spread out across the floor. “Don’t w-worry, little buddy, we’re not out for the count yet!” Sonic said, trying to comfort the both of them. “We’ve faced worse before…we’ll pull through, even if it’s hard!” “This is not a matter of being hard, hedgehog.” Knuckles retorted, kneeling in acceptance of his defeat. “This is impossible, we have only countered power like this through the Chaos Emeralds. There is no saving the day here…” His words left Sonic speechless, he knew what he was saying was true, but he couldn’t accept it. He couldn’t accept that the end was near, couldn’t accept that there was nowhere left to run, and he couldn’t accept that he’d failed his friends, failed the world. He desperately tried to get back up, every time he planted a foot into the frosted earth, he collapsed back down. Tails was shivering, Knuckles was silent, but Sonic kept pretending, pretending that he still had hope. “Cmon guys, we’re heroes! We can…w-we can still save the day.” “…Right?”
