Ever since Penny came home from the hospital, I've been tracking her food intake down to the gram, taking note what percentage of her calories have come from kibble, wet food, and treats.

4 months ago today, Penny landed in the hospital. She fought her way through DKA, a blood transfusion, & so much more.
17 weeks ago today, Penny had surgeries to remove her spleen — and a massive tumor on it — and get a feeding tube.
Today, Penny is a purry, sassy, nearly 17 year old lady.

Trying something new can be invigorating, but it can also be mentally taxing, particularly if it comes with fear of failure. Accepting mistakes as part of the learning process can help alleviate some of that exhaustion.

11 years ago today, Munchkin crossed over the rainbow bridge just shy of his 17th birthday. 🌈 Every year, we get a sausage pizza on this day to commemorate him, as it was his favorite. (He even ate a full slice once when humans weren’t looking! 😅)

Penny came home today!! Eternally thankful — to my hubby who rushed her to the vet hospital, to the amazing veterinary staff who took care of her, to everyone who kept her in your hearts, and to the generous souls who donated to her cause. 🩷🥹

Penny ate another 40 calories of food off my fingers this afternoon! Her blood sugar is holding steady amid eating, so we are so so happy for her.
If she continues to eat and build up her appetite, she’ll be able to transition from IV diabetes management to an injection formula.

Penny wasn’t eating this morning, so they gave her an appetite stimulant and she’s willing to eat a little again. We are spending lots of time with her today and giving her food as she’ll accept it. She’s already had two of her big delectables packets and one Churu since we have been with her!

Update!
Penny is out of diabetic ketoacidosis!! Her pH levels are back in the range of normal.
Her blood sugar was 210 recently, which is great progress from yesterday.
Her red blood cell count is also holding steady!

The catheter in her leg was giving some trouble, so she’s getting a more stable one placed in her neck.
She continues to purr and nuzzle into our hands when pet and was thoroughly enjoying being brushed this evening.
