Principal photography occurred in Toronto, Canada, due to the city's similarities to New York.[9] The film includes several examples of del Toro's most characteristic hallmarks: "I have a sort of a fetish for insects, clockwork, monsters, dark places, and unborn things", said del Toro,[10] and this is evident in Mimic, where at times all are combined in long, brooding shots of dark, cluttered, muddy chaotic spaces. According to Alfonso Cuarón, del Toro's friend and colleague, "with Guillermo the shots are almost mathematical — everything is planned".[11] It has been reported that one day Harvey was so infuriated with del Toro that he stormed onto the Toronto set and attempted to instruct del Toro on "how to direct a movie", and later tried to get him fired.[14] Following an intervention from lead actress Mira Sorvino, Weinstein backed down, and principal photography would be completed with del Toro as director in the winter of 1997.[14] Producer B.J. Rack later compared making the film to "being a prisoner of [a] war camp",[14] while del Toro stated in 2018: "The only time I have experienced bad behaviour, and it remains one of the worst experiences of my life, was in 1997, when I did Mimic for Miramax. It was a horrible, horrible, horrible experience".[15] The Weinsteins insisted on having control over the final cut, and del Toro later disowned the theatrical cut, but states that "Mimic is visually 100% exactly what I wanted... The movie is visually gorgeous and it has a couple of sequences I’m very proud of.".[12][13][14] Bong Joon-ho cited Mimic as an inspiration for his monster movie The Host (2006).[29]

I've been thinking about Carlton Tavern lately
The building was being considered by Historic England for Grade II listing when it was unexpectedly demolished on 8 April 2015 by its owner, Israeli property developer CLTX Limited, to make way for a block of flats above a new pub.[6][9] The manager was told by the owner on Easter Monday to close the pub for an "inventory", but when she returned two days later she found the building had been demolished.[6] According to Haaretz, CLTX is "a relatively unknown company with only one listed director – Tel Aviv lawyer Ori Calif".[6] Historic England had surveyed the pub, making records of the layout, tiles and other original details so that full architectural information was available. Listing as a Grade II building was going to be announced a few days after its unexpected destruction.[2] On 5 May 2015, Westminster City Council issued an "unprecedented" enforcement notice ordering CLTX to "recreate in facsimile the building as it stood immediately prior to its demolition". The notice prevented CLTX from selling the site until the pub had been rebuilt.[10] The London Evening Standard reported that CLTX would have to rebuild the pub "brick by brick".[10] CLTX was ordered to rebuild the pub within 18 months from the date it was demolished, 8 April 2015. Councillor Jan Prendergast called the demolition "the lawless destruction of Westminster's heritage". Councillor Robert Davis, deputy leader, said "Westminster is home to the West End – not the Wild West".[11]

It's funny when Tumblr. Screenshots circulate other websites or you show one to someone who's not super online and they think they're supposed to pay attention to the user names as a part of it, so they get really hung up on the fact that a comment comes from a handle like "sloppymuppetballs" or "werewolf-smega-collector."
