Photos and observations from Idaho’s high desert.
I don’t seem to know how to upload images. Never mind.

When her voice shook. I just felt her power.

I can attest to this. I’ve met wolves three times far from human habitation in the wild. They know well the cost of harassing humans and just want to be left alone.

Have you found the flavor good? I’ve been sad the kit mushrooms end up fairly bland. What of adding some soil, minerals or something to the mix?

Such sad timing for our nation’s broader realization that a system for providing healthcare can not be put in the hands of profit making corporations.

It’s so fascinating how the natives out last the invasive species in dry years. When it’s a wet year here, it’s tough. I’m pulling weeds forever in my little preserve. So many tiny adaptations. I’m far from seeing even a fraction of them.

I agree! Tiny does not equal absent. I’ll post a photo in spring when things are blooming. This one is dead of winter. I’m trying to learn all my flowers in skeletal form. It’s good for collecting a little seed for my native yard down the hill.

Yeah. That ice water is cold. To watch the water bead off their backs you’d think they didn’t feel it. But they’ve got those bare feet. Must not have a nerve in them.

Cool. Sounds like a good setting for a novel.

We live in a house wrapped by a male clone whose roots spread under the house and out the other side. In the midst of the desert the clone gets water and nutrients from our septic (I know risky but is has worked fine for decades) and provides us shade.

One creature of 13.2 million pounds spread across 106 acres. Stunning. I need to visit Pando some day.

Thanks. That’s super sweet.
